About Parrots Books

Mission and Purpose
Our mission is to put quality (grammatically and phonetically correct, and well illustrated) Hindi Books, Audio CDs, DVDs, Puzzles and Interactive Activities in hands of Hindi learners through Personal, School and Public Libraries.

Our Story
Parrots Books took birth to address the issues raised by librarians, parents, and teachers who would like to see more Hindi material easily accessible for heritage and non-heritage Hindi learners.

It began in Spring of 2006 with a voluntary project of 'Story Time in Hindi Language for Pre-school Children' at the local libraries. Finding good quality books for Story Time became a challenge. Librarians expressed a desire for pre-catalogued Hardcover books, and a local vendor to deal with. This lead to search for books and publishers, and even development of few books and puzzles. Of course where there is a will, there is a way.

After spending months in ordering samples, reviewing them, dealing with publishers, and transportation issues, Parrots Books is proud to offer an initial selection of over 60 products that include books, audio CDs, DVDs and puzzles.

Our vision is to see hundreds of such books, audio CDs, DVDs and Puzzles in school, public and home libraries. We hope to expand our collection to other South-East Asian languages also. You can help us by donating your favorite products to your local or school library, spreading the word, and creating a demand by checking out available material at your library.

Children learn by repeating just like Parrots do, thus the name Parrots Books. We hope to make an audio CD available for each book carried through Parrots Books, so children can learn independently by listening.

Madhu Aggarwal
Founder/Owner/Marketing Director

Born and raised in India, Madhu Aggarwal came to the United States at the age of 20 to join her husband and his family. With her background in medical sciences, she pursued an Undergraduate degree in Microbiology, and went onto doing a Master's degree in Computer Engineering.

While raising two children, and working in the Corporate World as a Software Engineer, she realized that she is passionate about Hindi. She is actively working with California Language Teacher Association to get Hindi language started in California Schools as a Foreign Language.

Her passion for Hindi put her in a teaching position at the Fremont Temple as a volunteer in 1987. She decided to write a fun and structured curriculum for young children growing in America, and this led her to write books for her students. Currently she is teaching Hindi classes all over the Bay Area, and in after school programs at ISTP (International School of The Peninsula), Harker School, Stratford and AAFM (All Are Friends Montessori) School in Foster City.

Madhu has also been reading stories to Pre-School children at the local Libraries and Book Stores. Along with Teaching Hindi in the Bay Area, she felt, there were not enough good quality books, games and puzzles for young heritage and non-heritage Hindi learners growing up in America. Children and Parents should be able to find Hindi learning material at local Libraries and Book Stores just like Chinese, Italian, Japanese and Spanish. She is actively involved in reviewing Children Hindi books for the library, and writing simple Hindi stories for Children.
